Final Cut Pro

First we used colour masking where we made everything but the jacket black and white.

Then we used colour matching to create the effect of the two different shots as having the same lighting when in two different settings.

Ben Howard- Keep Your Head Up

In the opening shot we see the overpowering sunlight that is represented throughout the music video with also the showing of the bubble/s that indicate the happening of the storyline within the music video. Also there is a clear use of some colour effect making all the shots used look a kind of magenta tint to it. Also the constant use of close ups the bubble promotes the summer vibe that is being given.

Within the story of the music Ben Howard as the main person within the story that is connected with the music itself, as we see him carrying out tasks like carrying hay to create some kind of en goal.

The pace of the shots used increase as the pace of the music begins to increase therefore shots are shorter and there are more of them. Also there is a constant link between the lyrics used and what is happening in the music video as he says "I saw a friend of mine" and two friends help him at the same time.

Towards the end we start to see the end goal of the music video where we see what they were making with a long shot of the three characters shown, with the main character in the centre of the shot.

Existing Media

"Attica Riots stand out with their catchy hooks, pop driven choruses and vocals that are very distinctive."
Attica riots have a already existing music video that can be found on youtube. The song is called "Give it to me".

They are a indie/rock band from the UK, from Scunthorpe and Doncaster.
They have one song called "I never got lost except by your side"

Target audience research

One group for out target audience would be people who are in the leading edge group. This is because these sort of people who live for the new and the now. These work well because the song we are using are a new band and they would more likely listen to them and make them known. Also they share ideas which means that they will share the song around and enjoy it.

Creatives strongly oppose the traditional 9 to 5 lifestyle. They’re dedicated to pursuing their craft, creating and developing new ideas.
DIYers are making waves from their bedrooms, skilled with low-fi tech and enjoying the ever-increasingly popularity of the electronic dance scene.

Indie Scenesters are proper ‘musos,’ fans of electronic, urban and of course indie sounds – they’re fully committed to staying ahead of the curve
"From UK Tribes"

Another group for our target audience would be the Alternative group. It would be these because they like to listen to non mainstream music and therefore would more likely to listen to an unsigned artists. This group are very into their music and therefore would be a perfect target market for this music video. Also the group we are making a video for '4 Kicks' would be most likely to perform on stage which the alternative group would be more likely to see. People in this group are normally older teenagers and young adults who will most likely listen to this kind of music.

Young Alts are just starting out are are voracious consumers of every source of Alt inspiration they can get their hands on, from Kerrang! to Neflix and Spotify…

Change of brief

We have decided to change our brief from the making of a music video to a film trailer. We have done this as it is more similar to the work we did last year in the making of a movie opening. Therefore this work has more prepared us to do a movie trailer than the making of a whole music video and we feel more confident in doing a plot in which leads on to a movie rather than a music video in which is completely different in the making. The initial work of a music video has helped to know how to source un-copyrighted music for free, therefore we can include the music we find in our movie trailer legally. We have identified our movie genre as being a horror film trailer, however we may choose to switch to an horror sub-genre as this will make our work more unique and may even broaden our target audience. There are sub genres that interest us like slasher and psychological horror in which we want to create elements from a psychological horror in our movie opening. As there is two different genres thriller can be classed as a mix not just horror, for example action films may be classed in the thriller category. Therefore the main target audience for regular horror movies is usually 18+ as there is normally a lot of violence and gory scenes, therefore it may be difficult to show this to under 18's. However making the film trailer more of a thriller may mean we can lower the age rating to 15 as there may be less serious crimes shown and also be more of a "jumpy" type of horror, thriller. Therefore we may choose to get actors around the age of 15+ to relate to this target audience of older teenagers. As well as this we were thinking of making the film trailer relatable to everyone by making it take place in regular locations for example the home.

The Maze Runner Textual analysis

The maze runner is an action thriller film and I am analysing this because we are thinking of doing either of a thriller or horror film trailer ourselves, and also thriller and horror films closely link in the way they are set out to make the audience "jump" or be on edge when watching the trailer.

                             The Maze Runner from Brandon_H

Maze runner trailer analysis improved

The opening of the movie starts with the age rating of the film, that I approved by The Motion Picture Association Of America, where this thriller film is rated a PG-13.

This is the first shot of the trailer, and it starts with a black screen before this shot with non-diagetic sound of a loud short sound and as the sound last for a split second it transitions from the black screen, this sound repeats as there are multiple transitions from the black screens to shots of this character, the sound is in sync with these cuts. to this overhead shot of the character getting up. As well as this there is dialogue of "Can you tell me anything about yourself, who you are? Where you came from?" This is obviously dialogue from a future scene. Also the dialogue is clear and is louder than the non-diagetic sound.

At the beginning of this shot starts a loud screeching noise which is combined with the sound of the moving elevator which is diagetic sound. This shots shows the elevator rising to what seems to be nothing in particular. This could also be seen as a point of view shot in which we are seeing from the perspective what the character below is seeing.

This shot reaffirms the POV shot that we are seeing from this characters perspective. Also the shot being from behind the bars of the elevator still sets the scene.

Then the screeching music comes to an end at the same time the elevator stops, with all sound coming to an abrupt and sudden end almost jump scaring people. This happens as the screen goes black, which adds to the tension to the audience as they don't know what's fully happened as before they saw the screen went black.

Then there is a jump cut used, to show the same character speaking further on in the film. Then dialogue is used "Can you tell me your name? I cant remember anything" as well as this the performance aspect of mise-en-scene come in as the character show he is worried by stuttering his words and by shaking adding to the tension the audience has.

Then another jump cut is used to go back to the elevator scene. Where the screeching music is introduced again with also the loud sound of the elevator doors opening. As well as this we see the male characters looking down on the elevator, which shows there power and authority. This is another POV shot from the character in the elevator who's name is Thomas.

This is a quick transition close up shot of Thomas, Which is used again to just show his reaction to the certain situation. It is made to look as if the sun is glaring down on Thomas's face however this is artificial lighting which is a part of the mise en scene.

Then we see a shot reverse shot from Thomas point of view, then switching to see the protagonists reaction. This shot is usually at the eye level of the main character as shown in the
picture below. This conniting that he is the main focus and main importance of the trailer.
Kept at the eye level of the main character "Thomas".

High angle point of shot to show his authority as it shows this character looking down at Thomas. Therefore connoting his power as Thomas has to look upwards towards him, showing that Thomas is lower in the hierarchy than the male shown on screen.

Next they jump cut forwards to Thomas seeing the main setting of "The Maze"

After the initial shots of the movie sequence The Maze Runner continues with the majority of the shots focusing on the main character, the protagonist in which the audience learns about his story and what role he is going to play in the film, either from his actions, words or from the other characters. It should be easy for the audience to be able to distinguish the main character apart from the support actors. During the middle of the movie trailer they show more of the setting and do this from using crane shots and point of view shots, this is to purely show the audience of the characters surroundings and make them feel more of a part of what is happening and letting them more into the experience of the characters may be feeling or going through in the film/ trailer.

The purpose is to promote the movie and try and get as many people as possible to wither to go to the cinema to watch the film or buy the movie either through dvd sales or on the internet or through any broadcast companies. Therefore there main goal of the trailer is to increase publicity of the movie and try and get more sales.
Using the socio-economic audience theory the movie trailer don’t apply to the unemployed or those on very low income from casual work as they will not be able to afford to go to the cinema to watch the film or to buy a copy of the dvd, because this film would be seen as a luxury item or service for them in which they would have to save to be able to go. Therefore it more applies to all of the categories except the unemployed and the high ranking manager in industry or professions such as law or medicine, because they are more likely to go to theatres and plays rather than a public viewing of a film, in which they would be more likely to watch the film for free through broadcast companies like Sky.
Using the ITV sales demographics the categories most likely to want to watch the film and the target audience for Maze Runner would most likely be Adults/ men in the ABC, social class category and maybe men aged between 15-34. But the main audience may actually be teenagers as this is a thrilling film that appeal to a younger audience due to nearly all the actors are playing teenage characters and all but one of the teenage characters are male. Therefore the audience of teenage males will be able to relate to this film a lot easier and maybe an important factor to whether or not the intended audience go to watch the film.

The Hallow

A deer can be seen in a long shot at the start where a it is standing in the woods. The focus of this shot is on the deer and how it is isolated from everything else. We see the deer because a weird noise is made and the deer looks up to show that it is near. The lighting in this scene is very dark and gloomy to set the setting of the trailer which is stereotypical in all thriller/horror trailers, in the woods at night.
Shot where it has gained awards. The shot is of a wide landscape where there is a forest.
Positive but still spooky music at the start of the trailer. Reference to other thriller movie trailers as they all start off happy and then it cuts to scary scenes. The lighting in these scenes are very bright to represent the happiness. Through this scene the family talk to each other saying if they miss London, and them replying no. This sets the story for the trailer and gives the audience a feeling that something bad is going to happen as it is stereotypical of a horror/thriller to be set in a old house in the middle of the woods. The audience knows it a old house because of the establishing shot of the house when it looked run down. Therefore when we see a long shot of the woman on the side of the house painting it, we know that it used to be old and therefore something bad is going to happen, because of the stereotypes associated with old houses in horror/thriller genres.

There’s a plot point in the trailer where they start to find things that are wrong in the house like the roof that is falling in. At this point the music stops, which is very conventional to thriller/horror trailers as it build tension for the audience and they would want to see more. Also when they see that something is wrong, the first person to go and check is the man as they are gender stereotyped to go first to check out something. This is also very conventional in horror movies, with the woman staying behind or being left alone to for something to happen to her after this throughout the trailer the lighting stays majority low key as it wants the scene to be felt as scary.

In the next scene we see the main protagonist with a camera taking pictures of the house which then the dog barks. This is also very conventional in horror movies for an animal to notices something before anyone else which then scares the audience and the people in the trailer because this is conventionally scary for an animal to notice something which a person cant. Next the music starts to get louder and more intense, then a flash of light appears with the appearance of a figure in the window which then it quickly cuts away when the figure disappears. This is also a stereotype of horror/thriller genres. This then cuts into the next scene where a high pitched noise is made to advance in the plot in the trailer. The trailer then establishes the problem with the people trying to find out what is happening.

The rest of the trailer is a montage of clips that show certain points in the movie where the characters are in trouble. This is conventional in most trailers as they follow the TODOROV theory but not showing the new equilibrium as this will ruin the move as it is only a trailer. They do this because they want the audience to be asking question which then they will see the movie.
The next scene is where the man and woman are in the kitchen with the baby sleeping upstairs. The music in this scene is the babies’ music box which makes the scene creepier as it is conventional to have a small child’s music box playing in a room. Next a series of small cuts happens and then the woman runs upstairs to then have the door slammed in her face.

In the montage the man has a gun which is stereotypical of horror/thrillers as the man is usually the saviour with the woman in trouble, which is the case in this trailer. Also there a sudden loud sounds
appear which create the effect of a thriller, also sudden cuts of thriller type images like for example, a needle just about to go in the protagonists’ eye.

This trailer is promoting the release of a horror film called The Hallow. It shows the audience on what is going to happen in the film by showing only the best bits.

This trailer categorises the audience under the socio economic groups. Firstly the unemployed or those on very low income from casual work won’t be included in the groups of people who would watch the film because they wouldn’t be able to afford it and would consider it as a luxury. Also high-ranking managers would much rather go and see theatre rather than go to the cinema and watch a horror film. This is also a stereotype as lower classed people see higher class people on going to see opera and watch plays at the theatre. Although this theory isn’t very helpful because it only looks at the classes of people and how much they earn and it isn’t in a particular group.

Also another theory is that ITV Sales Demographics. This is more in depth research as it looks at separate areas of the audience and you can have a better understanding on what the audience is for a film. For this horror film the groups that would be linked with it are, M3 (men aged between 16-34), ME(Men), A3 (Adults aged between 16-34). This research is better for the advertisement company because they will have a more of an understanding on what groups they can advertise too. Also men and women would watch horrors because they will go for fun as a group. Children wouldn’t watch horrors because they wouldn’t be the correct age to actually go and watch the film.

The Cabin In The Woods

The Babadook Poster Textual analysis
A troubled widow discovers that her son is telling the truth about a monster that entered their home through the pages of a children's book. They read the strange book beforehand in their house about the 'Babadook' monster that hides in the dark areas of their house.
Director: David Robert Mitchell
Release Date: 28 November 2014

The movie poster uses the stereotypical colours of a horror movie as being black, white and reds this is to show easily to the audience the genre of the movie and also establishes between the target audience of the people who would usually watch these types of films. The background colour being white and all the text and pictures of the movie poster is located on the “Babadook”, as we can clearly see the shape of the monster and the colour of it, this is the first thing the audience will see of the poster and it allows them to recognize the rest of the poster once notifying the genre of the poster, we can see this as the main antagonist through the claws and monster like features.

The monster also acts as a shape of a house and represents the monster only being existent in this one house scenario. We know this because of the grey images of windows and almost a door/ mirror like with the children inside connoting they will be the victims of the “Babadook”.

As well as this they have the words “if its in a word or its in a look you can’t get rid of…” The Babadook, this is a type of slogan that links the slogan with the film, therefore adding more value and depth into the poster in which people will read and will instantly make the link of a children’s horror book which is how the they get haunted. Therefore without revealing too much they give the audience the plot of the movie, and this is done in a very suttle but effective way.
Also the way the children are presented is they our wearing white clothing, which connotes purity and also the setting is dark connoting that the Babadook only comes out at night and prevents them from sleeping. Also the clothing looking like pyjamas also connote it is night time and this is when children like in the poster seem to be most vulnerable to things like monsters, e.g The Babadook.

Sinister Poster Textual Analysis

Sinister is a film about a supernatural force that haunts a house of the main protagonist and his family moves into it. He quickly learns that living in the house may be fatal. It was released on October 5, 2012 in the UK. Directed by Scott Derrickson.

When the audience looks at the poster they are greeted straight away by the red blood that is on the white wall. They notice this first because it stands out on the poster and that it is a focusing point of the poster so most of the attention is drawn to this point. The blood may connote a danger in the movie and this may draw people closer to watch the movie. Blood is very stereotypical in horror movie posters as they again connote danger. The blood also creates an atmosphere where nobody wants to be in, also the blood has a face emerging from it, and this may connote again a danger in the scene and in the movie, as his expression is angry/upset. Also the walls are cracked and dirty and this may connote an old house which is very stereotypical of a horror movie as they are mostly set in a house that is rundown.

Next is how people are presented in the poster. We see that a girl is wearing white cloths to represent purity but with the blood emerging from her hand as she strokes it across the wall suggests that she is evil or possessed. Also in this extreme long shot we see that we can’t see her face. This suggests that she doesn’t want her identity to be discovered or that they hide her face to create a sense of mystery to the audience. Also it is very stereotypical that a girl is being creepy in the scene.
Also in the bottom right of the poster you can see a reel of tape from an old movie, and this links in to the move as the main protagonist finds old movies of the family that lived there before. The movie reel is next to the blood because it connotes that it is dangerous. With the reel being smashed it connotes that someone must have done that because they are scared or something like a supernatural being crushed it. This makes the audience think as they would see the girl and the blood and link them with each other.
Finally the lighting in the poster focuses on the blood.

Empire magazine textual analysis

The actual title of the magazine being “EMPIRE” changes to suit the title of the film The Dark Knight, doing this they have a bold black text with a green outline which people connote to the Batman films as a whole. As well as this the whole theme of the front cover seems to be green to be unique to the film of The Dark Knight of the villain that is in the film, in which in this case is the Joker, however on the other cover of The Dark Knight instead of the use of greens it is blue with the Batman on the cover, this is a clear binary opposites of good and evil and they do this through the colour schemes and also through the text of Batman vs. The Joker.
Underneath the title of the magazine there is a subheading of the title of the film and the text is again all in capitals and also the title acts as a play on words as in “The Dark Knight” also connotes that there is going to be a dark night and the savior is going to be the Knight, which is shown to be Batman as the protagonist on the cover of the magazine whereas The Joker is seen as the main antagonist of the film.
We know this just by the poster alone as the Joker comes across as intimidating as he looks down on the reader of the magazine as if he is superior or dominant to the reader. As well as this through the make up gives the joker a mysterious image and almost like he is not human. Through he black eyes, the white pale face and also the red grin that connotes a sense of unrealism and that The Joker is supernatural and above just regular humans. AS well as this the colour of the Jokers eyes seems to be black which makes it hard for the audience to relate to the character as his pupil is not seen as it merges into the rest of his eye. The extreme close up of the Joker emphasises these features, therefore the audience cannot look at a part of the magazine front cover without noticing him and quickly establishing that he represent evil where as Batman represent the good and that they are binary opposites.
The main target audience of the film will already be recognised as Batman is a franchise of films with a wide range of viewers, and a lot of them will be readers of the Empire magazine, however Batman is watched worldwide and not just America where this magazine would be published.

Horror Sub Genres

Comedy Horror:
Is the connection of both the comedy genre and horror genre, taking aspects from both genres in one film, making scary events funny or funny events scary. Examples include Scary Movie and Shaun of the Dead.

Gothic Horror:
Gothic Horror is similar to Comedy Horror as it is the coming together of two different elements in Gothic and Horror. These normally include the supernatural and settings like dungeons and castles. Examples include Frankenstein and Dracula.

Action Horror:
Combines the aspects of evil from horror films like the supernatural to the fights and car chases in the action genre. For example Blade and Dawn of the Dead.

Psychological Horror:
It is based on the characters fear, emotions, guilt and emotional instability. Which is then exploited by the antagonist.  Examples include The Shining and The Ring.

Slasher Horror:
Usually contain a lot of violence that usually revolves around a psychopath that uses a specific weapon to kill a lot of people. This sub genre is based a lot on the suspense and mystery of the build up.

There is also some other sub-genres like body horror, science fiction horror and more.

Age Rating

Horror movies are typically a 15 or above. This is because they most contain blood and violence which isn't suitable for people who are under the age of 15. Although most of the horror films have a high age restriction, parents allow their children to watch these movies in the home. This means that our target market age group would be 15's, but people younger than that will probably see the film as well because they will be aloud too.

Cohesive marketing campaigns.
A brand can be instantly recognisable by a consumer which it is usually a range of products that have a set of values. It is recognisable instantly by its name and/or symbol. For example the Nike tick, the McDonalds Logo and the Starbucks logo. Brand identity is created by using; brand essence and this is a way of summing up the brand to stockholders and consumers. For horror this would be an all rounded view of the film and how it would take place and all the other small details.

Brand image is the general impression held by a customer on a product.

Textual Analysis of student work

At the start if the trailer we see information on the age rating of the film and who it can be viewed by. This is very stereotypical of all movie trailers as it is by law that they include who the trailer an be viewed by.

It then transitions to a production company in a scary way. It transitioned by it looking like blood was overtaking the screen. It i stereotypical of horror movie trailers to include blood because it shows that the film will include gore and violence. We also see in this shot a red skull which represent death and it also by being red it may represent the devil as we represent the colour red to the devil, fire and blood.

In this extreme close-up shot we see that there is blood dripping from a tap. Again here we see that blood is included which is again very stereotypical of a horror film trailer. The trailer doesn't ruin any of the story to us at the start of the trailer because they want the audience to want more and therefore they will go and see it at the cinema. Also the tap looks old and rusty and this may suggest that it is set in an old house. This shot may also suggest that the blood replaces the water and no where is safe because of this. It is also a very low key out of focus shot to emphasise the horror that might come.

In the next shot we see someone dragging an axe across the floor. The audience doesn't know who this mysterious figure is so therefore it creates a sense of uncertainty for the audience and may want them to find out more about this person. Also it is very stereotypical for horror film trailers to have a mysterious figure i them as that are the reason it makes the film scary. Also the axe being dragged on the floor may suggest that he is dangerous. Also he is dragging it across the floor which may suggest that he is a killer and it'll make the audience feel un-easy. The lighting in this shot is also low-key which creates a sense of scariness. The person carrying the axe also cuts to different places creating a sense that they are not human?

In the next scene we see various of montage shots to show small sections of the film without ruining the story line. These montage shots will add more depth into the trailer and tell the audience what the film is about. Also some of these shots have a short duration as they want the shots to be quick to create tension. In one of the montage shots we see an eye looking around very quickly. We maybe see this because the eye is looking for someone or something. By looking at this we might be able to tell if the eye belongs to the protagonist of the movie. The eye is also distorted which creates a sense of freakiness and may make the audience feel uncomfortable.

In this show we see a bathroom wall with red writing on it saying 'YOU DESERVED IT'. The audience may find this scary because they do not know who wrote it, also by it being red it shows that it was written in blood. This is very stereotypical for horror films to have blood writing on the wall because it shows that the killer has used his victims blood to do it. The lighting is also low key as it gives it the effect that it is in an old bathroom or that it is night time. It is also very stereotypical for the film to be set at night as it gives the illusion that you are alone and you can't see what is outside and therefore the audience may be scared from the thought of the unknown.

In the final shot we see the protagonist and the antagonist meet outside. The shot framing makes sure that the antagonist face doesn't get shown in the shot. This is maybe because they don't want the audience to be able to see his face. This is stereotypical of horror films because the identity of the killer is usually kept hidden until the end of the film. This shot is low key as it creates tension. The transition from this shot to the final text is the girl starting to run away. This effect is very good as it creates the sense of danger and the woman starting to be chased by the anonymous figure.

Audience Research

I have used the website Survey Monkey to conduct research on the Horror Genre. I have used this because I an get the questionnaire to a lot of people via email. Also I have used this because I can look at the results easily and make decisions of these.

Results from Questionnaire :
https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-S7852PLJ/
(The results will automatically update when someone completes he questionnaire.)

Hopefully from this questionnaire we will be able to decide what type of sub-genre of Horror we want to do and also help us plan the characters in the film and what they look like (we will extract answers from question 10 to help us do this.)
As we can see from the results from question 9, that the age range that we think Horror movies should attract would be mainly 15+ and below 40 year olds. These people would usually fit into A3 and AA in the ITV Sales Demographics. This is because i think that from the research we see it fits these sections very well.
We have asked our audience on ideas for a title for the film. We want it to link in with the theme of a psychopath as we think we will make our film the sub genre of Horror Psychopath.
We asked our audience via the questionnaire on what type of sub-genre of Horror they liked best. We found that Comedy Horror is the most popular, although we are not going to do this because comedy is a hard genre to present in a film. Next is Action Horror and e are not going to do this sub-genre because it may also be hard to produce. Next is the Psychological Horror and Slasher Horror. We are thinking of going with this sub-genre because it would be interesting and easier to produce then a comedy Horror. Although we may think of adding more Slasher aspects into our film as it is as popular as Psychological Horror.
At first we thought to do our trailer in a house, as it is stereotypical for a psychological Horror to be set in a house where there would be a vulnerable victim for him/her. Through our research we saw that people also said that a house would be a good idea for a location. We are hoping to film it at a friends house, which we will make it look like a psychopath has been there.

Daniel: It would be yes near a forest.
Theo: That's good.
Daniel: In horror films which gender would be most likely be the antagonist?
Elliot: A guy
Theo: Probably, it just matters what it is about, if its some slumber party its obviously going to be a girl but if its like going camping its probably going to be a guy or a girl or maybe two together who stick always and then die together.

Danny: It uses quite, it contrasts quite a bit, the bright screen and the dark surroundings.
Daniel: This one is for the movie Scream 4
Marcin: The bottom of the mask looks like tip of a blade.
Daniel: And would you say knifes link in with horror movies generally?
Marcin: Yeah and its scream so yeah.
Daniel: Last one is a film called smiley.
Marcin: Thats just creepy.
Daniel: Why do you find it creepy?
Marcin: They dont have a face, its been cut and sown back together, and i find it uncomfortable.

Overall we found that people expect horrors to scare them and therefore the plot cannot be too predictable and has to catch the viewer off guard, also jump scares are often used to create this scare as well. This is something we would like to implement in our trailer. Also the people interviewed identified that it is more stereotypical for the antagonist to be male rather than female, therefore we plan on representing this in our trailer in trying to conform to norms of the horror genre.

Research into a successful marketing campaign and font research and how main and ancillary link together

The text above is used in all of the Star Wars movies where the words "Star Wars" are always seen in all capitals and with the black bold text with the yellow outline. This text is specific to Star Wars by the use of the yellow outline and also the "S" is made with a longer lower part of the S to resemble movement in the title. Therefore anything that resembles Star Wars as in the films or merchandise and posters and magazines can instantly be recognised just through the text alone.

In the above example you can see the text being used to link the film with the poster as they use the same font and use of capitals and colour of the text, As well as this they link the film in here with the poster as certain props are used that are specific to only Star Wars, for example the lightsabers and the type of guns used. As well as this the characters that are shown on the poster are all characters from the film and they wear the same clothes as they do in the film. They use costume to make there marketing campaigns unique compared to other films as in the use of the stormtrooper costumers that only resemble Star Wars movies. Therefore the poster only resembles what is in the movie, therefore there is continuity in there branding of the film and the use of marketing to show what the film has on offer.

In the magazine cover we see the replication of the use of the lightsaber to instantly tell the audience/ readers of the magazine that this is Star Wars as the lightsaber only relates to the film Star Wars. As well as this the same antagonist is shown which is shown in the film poster above, which shows 360 degree branding as the more or less the same thing is being promoted.

On this magazine cover from Empire we see the perspective of the protagonist of the film and connotes that this person is against the antagonist in the other clue and that the blue lightsaber resembles good and the red lightsaber resembles bad in the other poster and this is also shown in the main poster as well as one half of the poster is red and the other blue to represent two different sides clashing.
